When it comes to the skincare I choose to add to my daily routine, I am extremely picky. Most products will easily cause inflammation in my skin, with congested pores and breakouts. As my combination skin type varies with seasons and monthly hormonal fluctuations, finding products that will play nice with my oily T-zone as well as the dryer, deserty outskirts of my facial skin all year round is quite challenging.

I like to keep my skincare routine quite minimal and consistent, so finding products that my skin agrees with, that also show positive results is crucial. While the basis of my skincare routine has remained the same for quite a while, with the Toner/Essence, Moisture Serum and Moisturiser steps hailing from the amazing brand that is Pyunkang Yul (a full review of these products can be found here), a brand that has made its way into my daily routine with its incredible products is Salt By Hendrix.

Salt By Hendrix is an Australian brand that offers beautiful, premium formulations while ticking all the right boxes. Their high performing, organic, vegan, non-toxic, plant-based products will nourish your skin with rich botanicals, antioxidants and vitamins, leaving your skin and mind feeling balanced. Their products not only make a real difference in my skin, but are also a real pleasure to apply. The Botanic Facial Serum and the Glowtown Green Face Oil have become staples of my routine and my year long dedication to these products is a testament to how much I enjoy them and the impact they have had on my skin.

The Botanic Facial Serum was my first venture into the Salt By Hendrix brand and has remained one of my most amazing skincare finds to date. Crafted with Kakadu Plum – a superfood rich in Vitamin C – and other native Australian Superfoods rich in antioxidants, the serum helps combat free radical damage and helps increase skin cell turnover. I have found that this serum significantly helps reduce breakouts overall, while limiting post-breakout hyperpigmentation. It keeps my skin texture smooth and soft, reducing dullness and uneven skin tone while being extremely gentle.

The product comes in the cutest pink glass bottle with a dropper applicator. It is extremely lightweight, with a water-like consistency. This can make it a challenge to apply evenly, however I have used it both on its own and mixed in with Pyunkang Yul Moisture Serum and have found both application methods yield the similar results. It is very quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving behind no trace or residue. The product is not overly scented, rather boasting a natural, botanical scent that I quite enjoy. This serum has been a staple for over a year and I have no plans for its stint in my daily routine to end anytime soon.

The Glowtown Green Face Oil is a more recent find. It has been in my routine for about seven months and I have to say, when I purchased this face oil I had no real hopes for it. Never have I been able to find an oil that agrees with my skin. They all end up congesting my skin, adding no real moisture benefits and causing breakouts. But this one. This one’s different.

The top two ingredients in this formulation are Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil (Hemp Seed Oil) and Squalane Oil (Olive) and while this oil is on the heavier side, it has not caused any congestion, rather the opposite. My guess is that the magical ingredient that sets this oil apart from all the others I have tried over time is the Hemp Seed Oil, which isn’t the most common of ingredients. The oil does smell quite ‘green’ due to the cannabis component, however I don’t find it too bothersome. I use a couple of drops mixed in to my moisturiser at night and I wake up with plump, soft skin and reduced inflammation. It boasts fatty acids, linoleic and linolenic acids, amino acids and antioxidants that will hydrate and nourish while assisting skin regeneration. Salt By Hendrix claims that this “is the perfect face oil to incorporate into your routine if you have skin that is acne-prone, sensitive or hormonal” and I’d have to agree. A real game-changer!

  1. This is my first time hearing about Salt by Hendrix, but I need to check it out. I have similar skin concerns of combination skin with breakouts and oily areas, as well as larger than life pores. The packaging is very nice.
