The internet is teeming with photos of Instagram brows and brands can’t come out with products we seemingly “need” fast enough. I have to admit I used to be one of the people carving out my brows, filling them in, highlighting, shading and not to say there is anything wrong with that, but if you’re like me and your eyebrows are bushy and unruly, adding more product simply takes too long and makes them harder to manage.

I have come to appreciate the look of a more natural brow, just as I have come to appreciate more natural looking makeup overall. My eyebrow routine has gradually shrunk, now limited to the daily use of a brow gel and for the life of me I cannot bring myself to even spend a whole lot of money on those. The drugstore has some good options that are more budget friendly, so here are my two favourites.

ESSENCE Make Me Brow

The Essence Make Me Brow is one of the most affordable brow products you can find and also one of the best. A fantastic dupe for the Benefit Gimme Brow, this tinted gel formula contains tiny fibers that help fill in gaps to create fulled more defined brows, holding them in place for a decent amount of time. The product is also vegan and cruelty-free which is a bonus.

MAYBELLINE Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara

I have been using this product for a couple of years and I have to say I am thankful for the recent redesign of the brush. It is still quite large, but better than the weird ball shape it was previously. You may struggle with the size of the brush if you have finer brows, however for thicker hair, this is perfect, as smaller brushes don’t quite grip all the hairs for me.

This product is more on the crunchy side, however I find it to be one of the only products to actually hold my brow hairs in place longer. Once applied, you do not have much play time before it sets and once it does, brushing it through with a clean spoolie will disturb the product and start removing it, so refrain from playing with it too much.

Here I am wearing the MAYBELLINE Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara. For application I backcomb the product through the brow, then brush into place, coating the hairs and setting them. The products adds some definition and stops the hairs from falling down, which they love to do.

Let me know what you think of these products, or whether you have any other high performing product recommendation from the drugstore that might keep my unruly brows stay in place!
