There is nothing comfortable or attractive about chapped flaky lips, which is why we’re always on the hunt for the perfect lip conditioning treatments. You can bet we’ve all tried every product under the sun from medicated balms, salves, oils to lip scrubs and it explains why every bag and drawer have some random product in them that we’d hoped would work miracles.

Most lip products either feel like they are simply sitting on the lips, not sinking in, or even worse, somehow manage to dry out the lips even further. Below I will be sharing with you the two lip products that have become my saviours, along with a third standout (read on about Bite’s shameful reformulation). One for the nighttime and one for the daytime. The only two lip conditioning treatments that I now use and will ever need to save my weather and lipstick ravaged lips.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask works overnight to melt away dead skin cells, improving elasticity and texture. Infused with berry-derived antioxidants and vitamin C, as well as its proprietary “moisture wrap” technology, this product really works and you will see an improvement from first use.

I use this product exclusively at night. Some people recommend it for daytime use also, however I personally find that the texture is too thick for that. Once applied, it has the feeling of a lip gloss, quite thick and sticky, with a shine. I much prefer a lip product that will sink in during the day, rather than one that was designed to sit on the lips overnight, being wiped away in the morning.

The amount of product you get is incredible and will last you for a very long time, making it great value for money. I have recommended this lip masks to a few of my close friends who were struggling with very dry, cracking lips and it has changed their lives. It is everything you want it to be and definitely lives up to the hype.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

The Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask is my go to for the daytime. I always keep this on hand as I tend to get dry and cracked lips as a result of temperature changes and wind. It offers instant moisture and sinks in to the lips offering an instant boost of hydration. I use it as a lip balm, or as a boost on top of lipstick to bring back moisture into a matte formula.

The issue with this product is that it has been reformulated by Bite Beauty, and while it is now a vegan product, which is great, the reformulated version does not perform as well. The original version had medical grade lanolin as the first ingredient, castor seed oil as the second, and agave nectar as the third. Most of the ingredients were organic and food grade. The new formula still contains agave, however it is now not organic and has been bumped to the thirteenth spot on the ingredient list! The key ingredients that made the original formula so good (agave nectar, mangosteen extract, acai extract and oat flour) have been pushed so low on the ingredients list that you may not get any benefits as a result. It’s nothing but a shameful money grab from the company in an attempt to sell a cheaper formulation of lower quality on the backbone of a cult favourite by retaining the same name. Ugh!

All in all, if you can easily get your hands on the old formula, do it its amazing! It is still available at some stores and I stocked up while it was on sale at Sephora just before the introduction of the new formulation. If you cannot find it, my next recommendation is a very suitable replacement that performs just as well and for a lower price also.

Lanolips 101 Ointment

The Original 101 Ointment Multipurpose Superbalm by Lanolips is a fantastic replacement for my Agave Lip mask. While the Agave Lip mask is slightly more luxurious in terms of scent and colour, when it comes to actual performance and improvement in dry lips, Lanolips is just as good, if not better. It is 100% natural and uses ultra-pure, medical grade Aussie lanolin, which is what the reformulation of Bite’s product has scrapped from its ingredient list completely.

Lanolips offers a more effective and natural alternative to common petroleum based balms, with a non greasy or sticky formula. The balm penetrates the skin and seals in much needed moisture with the help of medical grade lanolin which offers extreme hydration for dry lips or any other dry skin concerns you may have.

If you have been mourning the loss of your Agave Lip mask, or are simply looking for a high performing natural product to help your chapped lips without the price tag of some higher end offerings, this is a fantastic choice. You get a large amount of product for the price and as you need so little for each use due to how dense it is, it will last you for quite a while.
